Rock the Rapids presented by West Side Beer Distributing, is Grand Rapids original music festival, and will be hosting a “Rock-Star” ribbon cutting on Friday, August 5, 2011. The Rock the Rapids team will be joined by the Rock the Rapids Board of Directors, event sponsors, local businesses, fans and media outlets at Festival Village at the time of 3pm for this “not so average” ribbon cutting. Festival Village is located just south of Van Andel Arena at {150 Oakes Southwest, Grand Rapids MI, 49503} also known as Parking Lot 4. The “Rock-Star” tweaked ribbon cutting reflects Grand Rapids support and pride in the electrifying event, Rock the Rapids. We will celebrate the new location and unveil the site map at Festival Village starting at 3. There will be refreshments and fun for all who join the Rock the Rapids team for this exciting kickoff to Grand Rapids original music festival!
Rock the Rapids presented by West Side Beer Distributing, the original six-day music and entertainment festival, will run every evening the week of August 8th – 13th. The Auto Value Main Stage, with eight Grand Rapids Toyota Headliners, will span the music genre spectrum from jam band, rock, country, classic rock, blues and hip hop/rap. “We are thrilled to bring so many different types of music to Grand Rapids for this event,” says Rock the Rapids founder, Denny Baxter. Rock the Rapids opens Monday, August 8 and features Lynyrd Skynyrd, Johnny Lang, Stone Temple Pilots, Willie Nelson, Blake Shelton, Alice Cooper, Ludicris and more! The festival will be located in parking lot 4 in downtown Grand Rapids, which is located between Oakes and Cherry Street, just south of the Van Andel Arena. In previous years, Rock the Rapids began as a two-day festival in 2009 at Fifth Third Ballpark in Comstock Park and expanded to a three-day event in 2010. Past performers have included Sammy Hagar, Flo Rida, Jason Aldean, Sean Kingston, Bret Michaels and B.o.B. It also hosted young phenomenon Justin Bieber who at the time was just on the cusp of his popularity explosion. Over 20,000 concert-goers attended the three-day event in 2010.
